August Slow Supper
It's the height of the season. Gardens are looking great, and farmers markets are overflowing. Get out your favorite summer recipes - tomatoes, zucchini, corn, anyone? - and join SFMV for an August pot luck dinner at the home of Bill and Joanne Treuhaft.
Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided; if you'd like to enjoy wine with your meal please byob.

Slow Food Dinner at Revolver Restaurant
Since SFMV was launched two years ago, we've enjoyed great food and conviviality, and we've done it on a budget accessible to everyone. Many events, like our Strawberry Celebration last Saturday, have been free, as well as informative and delicious.
Our June event is a splurge: a trip to Revolver Restaurant in Findlay. We're privileged to have such a restaurant right in our backyard, and I'm sure that the splurge will be worth it. I've just spoken with chef/owner Michael Bulkowski, and he's planning a great meal for us including Lake Erie perch or walleye, chicken from Dickman Farms, local strawberries, and local vegetables like heirloom beans, spring peas, and carrots. In addition to great food, we will hear from Michael about his restaurant, and we'll meet one of his suppliers - Russ Chester of Garden Spirit Farm in Mt Blanchard.

June - Strawberries!!
We're having a Strawberry Celebration! Slow Food Maumee Valley is teaming up with SFMV Members Fernando and Martha Mora, owners of Johnston Fruit Farms in Swanton, for a family-friendly event. Taste strawberries and learn about the farm: its history and the ideas that Fernando and Martha have for its future.

July - Mindful Eating with the Toledo Zen Center
Slow Food Maumee Valley in conjunction with the Toledo Zen Center presents a workshop on Oriyoki: the art of Zen eating. Oriyoki is the liturgical sharing of a meal in a Zen monastery. Oriyoki which translates as 'that which contains just enough' is a transformative practice of mindful eating. During this day long workshop we will practice traditional Zen meditation. We will also watch a film about a Zen Priest who was head cook at the San Francisco Zen Center. After a lunch break we will return to hear a talk on Oriyoki, then prepare and eat food according to this ancient and venerable tradition.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to enter deeply into the practice of gratitude and satisfaction as we taste, once again, for the first time.
